A glistening rare gas
Time : 2024-11-13

The noble gases are almost unique in the world of gases: the other elemental gases, such as hydrogen and oxygen, are made up of molecules made of two atoms, whereas the six gases have only one atom each. Because of their structure, they are so difficult to react with that they were once called "noble gases."

Different gases emit different light under different conditions.

Helium -- orange red

Neon -- red

Argon -- blue-purple

Krypton -- yellow-green

Xenon -- is the same color as sunlight

(1) Helium: Helium is the most abundant element found in the universe except hydrogen, but it is relatively rare on Earth, helium is generally extracted from natural gas. Helium is also the lightest gas besides hydrogen. It is used as a gas filling gas and can be used in a spaceship instead of hydrogen without catching fire or exploding. Liquid helium has a boiling point of -269 degrees Celsius. Liquid helium can reach ultra-low temperatures close to absolute zero (-273.15 degrees Celsius), so it is widely used in the field of low temperature. Helium is used in a wide range of applications, including medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), but also in the semiconductor industry, aerospace technology, and diving.

(2) Neon: neon is colorless, odorless and non-toxic gas at room temperature and pressure. When it is discharged, it is orangey-red, so neon is often used in beautiful neon lights. Neon lights emit red light, which is very strong in the air and can pass through thick fog. Therefore, neon lights are often used in airports, ports, and land and water traffic lines. Neon element has not yet made stable compounds, all in nature in the form of monatomic molecules (neon), neon can be used in neon lights, mercury lamps, insulation detectors, high frequency electroscope, plasma research, lasers, as low temperature coolant, standard gas, special mixture, etc.

(3) Argon: Argon is a colorless and a member of the noble gases. Its gas is 1.4 times denser than air and 10 times denser than helium. High-purity argon is used as a maintenance gas for the production of high-purity silicon and germanium crystals at the top of the semiconductor industry; Inert gases that can be used for system cleaning, shielding and pressurization; For chemical vapor stacking, sputtering and annealing. High purity argon can also be used as chromatographic carrier gas. Argon is widely used to fill arc light, fluorescent lamps and tubes; Welding maintenance gas; The production top of active metals such as titanium and cobalt is used as shielding gas; Special steel for blowing ferrous top.

(4) Krypton gas: Krypton is colorless, odorless, tasteless, not easy to have chemical interaction with other substances, when it is discharged orange-red, krypton gas is widely used in the electronics industry, electric light source industry, but also used in gas lasers and plasma flow. The light bulb charged with pure krypton gas has the advantages of high luminous rate, small size, long life and power saving compared with the argon filled light bulb with the same power. Krypton gas can also be used as a shading material for X-rays.

(5) Xenon: xenon is a colorless, odorless and non-toxic gas at room temperature and pressure, which does not burn. Xenon is very valued in medicine and can be used as an anesthetic. Xenon lamps also have a high degree of ultraviolet radiation, which can be used in medical technology. In the atomic energy industry, xenon can be used to test the presence of high-speed particles, particles, mesons, etc.

(6) Radon gas: radon is the only natural radioactive gas in nature. While acting on the human body, radon will quickly decay into radon daughters that can be absorbed by the adult body, and enter the respiratory system of the human body to cause radiation damage and induce lung cancer. Radon is also used as a gas tracer to detect pipeline leaks and study gas movement.
