Acetylene (C₂H₂) is the simplest alkyne. At normal temperature and pressure, it is a colorless, slightly pungent gas with a smell similar to garlic. Its molecule has a linear structure, with a triple bond connecting the two carbon atoms. This gas is the most important high-temperature fuel gas in the metal processing industry.
